Program

This 16-day motorbike tour takes you through Thailand, Laos, and Vietnam, traversing mountainous landscapes, remote routes, and unique cultural regions of Southeast Asia. From Bangkok to Hanoi, the route combines spectacular roads, traditional villages, and historical sites.

The experience is completed with a luxury cruise through Halong Bay, alternating days of driving with moments of rest to experience Asia in depth on two wheels.

Start of the journey and crossing of borders

Thailand Itinerary 2026

  • Day 1 / April 30 / Thursday: Bangkok
    Arrival in Bangkok. In the afternoon, we'll meet for a briefing where we'll explain the key points of our tour. Welcome dinner.
  • Day 2 / May 1 / Friday: Bangkok
    Today, we will take a city tour of Bangkok, approximately eight hours long. We will visit several of the most famous places in this city.
  • Day 3 / May 2 / Saturday: Bangkok – Chiang Rai – Chiang Khong
    We'll be taking a domestic flight from Bangkok to Chiang Rai. The Ride Asia team will meet you at Chiang Rai International Airport and transfer you to your hotel in Chiang Khong. After check-in, you can relax until the big briefing in the afternoon. Dinner will be served at the hotel restaurant.
  • Day 4 / May 3 / Sunday: Chiang Khong – Oudom Xay, 295 km
    Today we'll cross the border into Laos. The entry into Laos is quick. Today's route is quite winding, pure mountain road. Just be careful of the potholes. We'll arrive at our hotel in Oudom Xay in the afternoon.
  • Day 5 / May 4 / Monday: Oudom Xay - Dien Bien Phu, 205 km
    We leave Oudum Xay on Route R2E to Muang Khua and then on to the Tay Trang border crossing into Vietnam. Along the way, we'll stop to visit the Dien Bien Museum. Dinner at the ethnic restaurant Nhà hàng Dân Tộc Quán.

Mountains of Northern Vietnam: Sapa, Ha Giang and legendary routes

  • Day 6 / May 5 / Tuesday: Dien Bien Phu - Sapa, 270 km.
    A beautiful day awaits us. We'll travel along well-maintained roads and through remote mountains. Sapa is one of the most beautiful places in northern Vietnam. The area is famous for its terraced rice paddies and its charming local people. Along the way, you'll be captivated by the stunning scenery and magnificent roads. In the afternoon, we'll arrive in Sapa, where we'll have our first day of rest.

  • Day 7 / May 6 / Wednesday: Sapa, Day of rest
    Day off/Excursion to the Sapa rice terraces, Thung Lung Muong rice terraces, Notre Dame Cathedral, Sapa Love Market or relax at your hotel.
  • Day 8 / May 7 / Thursday: Sapa – Ha Giang, 235 km
    Today we continue north to Ha Giang. The small town of Ha Giang is the gateway to the northern provinces of Vietnam. This mountainous region lies on the border with Yunnan, China. After a wonderful visit to Sapa, we depart early. From the top of Sapa to Lao Cai, a border town near Hekou, China, we continue north on Highway AH14 to Ha Giang. Excellent driving and magnificent views along the way. Dinner at the Yen Bien Luxury Hotel.
  • Day 9 / May 8 / Friday: Ha Giang–Dong Van, 195 km
    We're still in the northern border region. Another day full of adventures. The route may be short, but the mountain roads and photo opportunities take time. It will take us a full day to reach our destination. Beautiful landscapes and narrow, winding roads accompany us through the border region to our easternmost point in Vietnam and the Lung Cu Flag Tower. We'll also have the opportunity to see the Twin Fairy Mountains. Today is one of the most unforgettable days of our trip. Dinner at the NhàHang Green Krast Restaurant.

Border region and access to the sea: from Dong Van to Halong Bay

  • Day 10 / May 9 / Saturday: Dong Van – Cao Bang, 220 km.
    Breathtaking views await us for the first 20 km towards Cao Bang, a town near the Chinese border. Spectacular vistas and winding roads lie ahead. Take your time and enjoy the beautiful viewpoints. Dinner will be served at a local restaurant.
  • Day 11 / May 10 / Sunday: Cao Bang – Lang Son, 265 km
    Today we travel east to the coastal city of Halong. We spend the night in the border town of Lang Son. Before departing for Lang Son, we visit Ban Gioc waterfalls on the border between China and Vietnam. The drive to Ban Gioc is a beautiful scenic route, while the drive to Lang Son follows rural roads. Dinner will be served at a Vietnamese restaurant.
  • Day 12 / May 11 / Monday: Lang Son – Halong, 185 km
    Today we travel to the world-famous Halong Bay for a two-day luxury cruise. The distance to the pier is 184 km. We should arrive at the Catherine Cruise Center to board around 11:30 am. Today's route is fairly straightforward, with little traffic, to the outskirts of Halong City. Lunch will be served on board. We recommend bringing light luggage for the two nights of the cruise. Once you arrive at the Cruise Center and park, please board with your full motorbike gear to facilitate disembarkation.

Halong Bay: Luxury cruise among islands and caves

Catherine cruise itinerary:

Day 1: Halong Bay – Sung Sot Cave – Titop Island

  • 11:45: Arrival at the Catherine cruise ship lounge in Tuan Chau Marina. Enjoy a welcome drink and meet the crew.
  • 12:15: Check-in to your cabins.
  • 12:30: The cruise captain will give you a brief briefing about the cruise and safety instructions.
  • 12:45: Enjoy lunch in the second-floor dining room.
  • 14:30: Visit Sung Sot Cave, the largest cave in Halong Bay, located in the center of the UNESCO World Heritage Site (approximately 700 steps up and down). Rubber shoes and sandals are highly recommended.
  • 15:45: Continue to Titop Island for hiking or swimming (towels provided).
  • 5:30 PM: Relax with a happy hour with the buy one cruise and get another one free offer and enjoy a cooking demonstration.
  • 19:15: A gourmet menu is served in the dining room on the 4th floor.
  • 8:45 PM: Bar shows on the terrace and happy hour. Squid fishing or mini-golf, karaoke, swimming pool, sauna and spa services.

Final experiences and grand finale in Hanoi

  • Day 13 / May 12 / Tuesday: Luxury cruise in Halong Bay
    Today we'll explore Halong Bay, swim, and kayak. If you'd like, we can start early in the morning with a Tai Chi class before breakfast. Then, we'll visit Surprise Cave, Titop, and the Pearl Farm by boat. Afterward, there will be time to relax before dinner.

  • Day 14 / May 13 / Wednesday: Halong – Hanoi, 155 km
    Today is our last day on our motorbike to Hanoi. From Halong Bay, we'll go directly. After breakfast, get dressed, pay your bills, and disembark. Our cruise ship will arrive at the port around 10:30-11:00 AM. After disembarking, the first leg of the journey is along a suburban road, and just before reaching the city, it gets quite busy. The city center is one of the busiest streets in the world, with hundreds of motorbikes everywhere. Please stay with your group; it will be impossible to find each other today! Dinner is at the Quan An Ngon Meliá Hà Nội Hotel.
  • Day 15 / May 14 / Thursday: Day of rest in Hanoi
    We'll meet for our tour of Hanoi. We'll travel in our local guide's van. There are many sights to see in a short amount of time. We'll try to see as many as possible and finish in the early afternoon so you can rest and prepare for Hanoi's Water Puppet Show in the evening. Farewell dinner.
  • Day 16 / May 15 / Friday: Hanoi
    Departure day.
