Itinerary

Arrival at Antofagasta. Early in the morning we will meet for a briefing in our hotel. After that, a welcome lunch.

Our bikes will be waiting for us at the hotel.

Today our tour can finally begin.

We leave Antofagasta and shortly after we will pass the Atacama Salt Flat. Along the way, we will see some mines of salt and lithium. We will take a short detour to see the Laguna de Chaxa.

Later that day we will reach San Pedro de Atacama.

Today we will leave Chile and cross the border to Argentina. We quickly ascend, from where volcanoes and lakes are visible. If we are lucky, we should also see some Llama herds along the way.

After a long day of driving, we will reach colorful Purmamarca.

After driving a couple of kilometers through the mountains, we will enter the ex-route 40. Here we will have 100km of gravel road.

Later, we can drive the famous viaduct Polvorilla.

Our route of today will take us from the mountains back to the lowlands. A wonderful route.

Our hotel is only a couple of steps away from the main plaza. There we can pay a visit to the amazing Cathedral of Salta and enjoy the city’s  atmosphere.

Today’s route will take us north, a route full of curves through the mountains before returning to the lowlands. A tropical and green landscape surrounds us now, the so called “Jungas”.

A lot of farming goes on around here.

We will say good-bye to Argentina and enter Bolivia through Aguas Blancas. Our route today is a pleasure for any motorcycle rider: a curvy road through the Jungas. Small stalls along the way sell exotic fruits.

Out hotel awaits on the outskirts of Tarija.

After Tarija, we will leave the Jungas behind and quickly climb back to barren mountains. We will drive through valleys and canyons.

Potosi is one of the highest cities in the world, at 4.090 meters above sea level.

Today’s driving will take us on different routes that go up and down hill. Tonight we will stay at the edge of the Uyuni Salt Flat, the largest of the world. But before that, we will make a stop in Uyuni to have lunch and visit the train cemetery.

If the weather allows it, we may experience the Salt Flat with our motorcycles. If not, we can take 4x4s.

During our rest day, we can take the bikes to the Salt Flat and take some amazing photos. This is an absolute highlight of the tour.

However, this can only be done if the Salt Flat is completely dry. If not, we can take Jeeps.

An early start, as we will have a long way ahead us driving back to Chile. Unpaved roads, salt roads, gravel, and sandy sections. We will reach the border in Ollague. The landscape is fascinating, as we can see different colors and dormant volcanoes.

Our final day. We will return the bikes and meet again for a farewell dinner to remember all the things we just experienced in this amazing tour.

Until we meet again for another Motoaventura!
